The Offical Regulation of Undergraduate Students

The total credits for undergraduate students are 129, which included:

  • Mandatory courses are 30, included colloege Chinese (2), college English (8), general education(20) , physical education and student service.

  • Required courses and credits for department are 69.

  • Professional elective courses are 21.

  • Optional courses are 9.

Mandatory Courses of University

2.  General Eduction Courses and Credits are 20: Core Curriculum and Elective Curriculum

【Remark】Among the 4 dimensions of Core courses, students are required to complete at least one Core course from each dimension. 

【Remark】Some GE courses are not recognized as General Education credits if the students are not the specific target group of the particular GE courses. If the GE course is marked by restriction code (such as *3 or *7), the credits will not be counted as GE credits if your own department or college has offered the same course.

3.  Students must take Services Courses for 60 hours with 0 credit.

4.  Students must take PE classes in three years (from first year to third year).

【Remark】Freshmen have to take Freshman Physical Education for one semester.

【Remark】Students have to take PE classes at freshman, sophomore and junior year.

【Remark】Students who pass the physicel fitness test can  waive PE classes for two semesters.

Mandatory Courses of Department of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management

  1. Five Undergraduate Core Capabilities
  • Integration - Abilities of integrating various technologies of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management
  • Information-Utilization of information technology to problem solving and applications in the fiels of Industrial Engineering
  • Interaction—Cordination and communication abilities with team work
  • Innovation/Ideas-Creative and innovative capabilities
  • Internationalization-Global interaction and public presentation skills
  1. The required courses should be taught by this department. If students intend to take courses due to failing grades, the principles are as follows:
  • First course taking: mainly courses offered by this department during the semester.
  • The second course taking: mainly courses offered by this department during the semester or summer; if not, courses offered by other departments of NTHU during the semester or summer can be used as credits.
  • Students who are taking courses above the third time or who are in their fifth year of college (inclusive): can be credited for courses at schools of the same level (including national universities, national universities of science and technology, and private universities). (Note: Students in their fifth year (inclusive) and above need to take NTHU’s courses for the first time)
  • Department transfer or school transfer students: Students who transfer from the National Taiwan University system (Tsinghua University, Chiao Tung University, National Yang-Ming University, National Central University) and take courses in the original department or school can be exempted. (If transfer/transfer students want to have credits deducted, please go to the school information system to apply at the beginning of the first semester of the transfer year)

If you comply with the above principles and plan to apply for course credit in this department, please fill in the undergraduate course credit/exemption application form before starting to select courses, and send it to the department office for approval by the department chair before you can take the course; if you do not follow the regulations, , the application will not be approved.

  1. Calculus, general physics (including experiments): The first time you take this course, you must take the courses offered during the semester. Summer courses are only applicable to repeat students (those who take the course for the first time but then apply to stop taking it are not eligible to repeat the course).

Professional Elective Courses and Optional Courses

1. Students must take at least 12 of 21 credits from 'IEEM'  elective courses. The remaining 9 credits can be choosen from either IEEM course or related course with your Advisor's signature.

2.There is no limit for optional courses.
