Maw-Sheng Chern received a B.S. and an M.S. degrees in Mathematics from National Taiwan Normal University and National Tsing Hua University respectively, an M. Math. in Combinatorics and Optimization, and a Ph.D. in Management Sciences from the University of Waterloo. He joined this department in 1980 and was the department chair from 1991 to 1994. Dr. Chern served as the program director for Industrial Engineering and Management Division, National Science Council, TAIWAN from 1995 to 1998 and was named Tsing Hua Professor of Engineering in 2003 and Tsing Hua chair professor in 2006. He has been on the editorial boards of IIE Transactions on Logistics and Scheduling, International Journal of Industrial Engineering - Theory, Applications and Practice, Chiao-Ta Management Review, Journal of Management and Systems, Journal of Chinese Institute of Industrial Engineering,, International Journal of Operations Research, and The OpenOperational Research Journal. His current research interests include Metaheuristic Algorithms, Production Inventory, and Scheduling.
